Golden retriever

  • Why we love them: friendly, tolerant, sociable and agile

APEARANCE

A healthy adult Golden Retrievers will weigh between 55 to 75 pounds, and males typically a little heavier. Goldens have a dense, water-repellent outer coat with a thick undercoat. Their coat color can range from light golden to dark golden. Their friendly wagging tails are always in motion!

GROOMING

Goldens have a thick coat that needs regular brushing, ideally 3x a week. This helps control shedding and keep it clean and healthy. Goldens can be heavy shedders, especially during spring and fall.

PERSONALITY

Golden Retrievers are friendly, intelligent and gentle. They are eager to please, and make great companions for children. Their desire to please, together with their intelligence, makes them highly trainable.



FUN FACT

Golden Retrievers were bred in Scotland in the mid-19th century, when hunting was a popular sport among the elite. Goldens were trained to retrieve game from land and water.  Their water-repellent coat and unique rudder-like tail, makes them excellent swimmers, and perfect for retrieving waterfowl.
