Can you rename a rescue dog?

Most shelter dogs and cats are assigned names by rescue staff, before their personality has a chance to shine through. If your dog or cat was a stray, they might not have a name at all. Puppies often learn in just a few days; older dogs and those unlearning a previous name may take a little longer.
